Chicago Debuts at Valpo Invitational

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- The University of Chicago women's cross country team opened its 2009 campaign with a third-place finish at the Valparaiso University Crusader Open Friday afternoon.

The only non-Division I team among the five competing squads, Chicago finished the meet with 61 points. The University of Notre Dame led the way with 26 points, while Western Michigan University (45), Valparaiso (107), and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (129) rounded out the field.

Junior Liz Lawton (North Easton, Mass./ Thayer Academy) and sophomore Rachel Ohman (Solana Beach, Calif./ Torrey Pines) finished third and fourth, respectively, out of 54 runners with times of 18:44 and 18:54 on the five-kilometer course.

Junior Elizabeth Bright (Brighton, Mont./ Montana Academy) turned in a 14th-place showing with a time of 19:46.

Chicago returns to action Friday, Sept. 18 at the Illinois Intercollegiate Invitational in Bloomington.
