Maroons Fall at Brandeis

BOSTON -- Brandeis University scored twice during a seven minute span late in the first half as the Judges defeated the 16th-ranked University of Chicago 2-0 in University Athletic Association women's soccer action Sunday afternoon.

Sofia Vallone took a cross from Melissa Gorenkoff and fired a shot into the lower left hand corner of the net at the 32:48 mark. At 39:17, Tiffany Pacheco gathered a misplayed ball in the goalmouth and sent it into the Chicago net.

Brandeis netminder Hillary Rosenzweig made eight saves to hand the Maroons their first regular season shutout in 23 games since a 1-0 loss to Brandeis -- with Rosenzweig in goal -- on Oct. 17, 2008.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Gormley (Carmel, Ind./ Carmel) stopped eight shots for the Maroons.

Each team attempted 14 shots, while Chicago held an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Brandeis improved to 8-6-3 overall and 2-3-1 in UAA play, while the Maroons slipped to 13-3-1, 3-2-1.

Chicago concludes the regular season at home Saturday, Nov. 7 when it takes on Washington (Mo.) University at 1:30 p.m.
