Chicago Defeats Case 5-1

CHICAGO -- Junior forward Sarah Loh (Grand Rapids, Mich./ Forest Hills Northern) scored a pair of goals as the 11th-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team defeated University Athletic Association rival Case Western Reserve University 5-1 Sunday at Stagg Field.

Loh, who recorded her third career multiple-goal performance, scored on a short breakaway at the 21:47 mark and converted a penalty kick at 55:22. With her seventh and eighth goals of the season, Loh took over the team lead.

Sophomore forward Allison Hegel (Vienna, Va./ Jefferson) tallied what proved to be the winning goal off an assist from senior midfielder Melissa Plesac (Hobart, Ind./ Hobart) -- her team-leading fourth assist of the year -- at the 30:01 mark.

Less than three minutes after Loh's successful penalty kick, senior forward Brooke Bontz (Fort Collins, Colo./ Poudre) deflected in a corner kick from freshman midfielder Brigette Kragie (Wheaton, Ill./ Wheaton-Warrenville South) to put the Maroons (10-2-1 overall, 2-1-1 UAA) on top 4-0. Bontz's goal was her seventh of the season.

The teams traded goals in the final 20 minutes. Case's Kaitlyn Yule scored off an assist from Maeve Goede at 73:48 before junior midfielder Emily Benoit (Kalamazoo, Mich./ Hackett) capped the scoring with her first goal of the year on a 16-yard shot with just under three minutes to play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Gormley (Carmel, Ind./ Carmel) made three saves to keep Case (7-5-2, 2-2) off the board for 65:20. Freshman Molly Miller (Woodinville, Wash./ Bear Creek School) played the final 24:40.

Anna Kennedy made five saves and allowed four goals for the Spartans in 75:22 of work before giving way to Katie Woodling, who allowed one goal without making a save.

Chicago returns to non-conference play Wednesday, Oct. 21 when it hosts Anderson University at 3:30 p.m.
