Maroons Open Season with Road Win

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Junior forward Sarah Loh (Grand Rapids, Mich./ Forest Hills Northern) scored the winning goal early in the second half as the 16th-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team edged DePauw University 2-1 in the season debut for both teams Tuesday night.

Loh tallied an unassisted goal at the 53:50 mark to break a 1-1 tie and send the Maroons to their fourth consecutive opening day victory.

Chicago took the lead 21:51 into the contest when senior midfielder Katie Klamann (Kansas City, Mo./ Notre Dame de Sion) tallied off an assist from senior forward Brooke Bontz (Fort Collins, Colo./ Poudre).

DePauw drew even at the 32:17 mark on an unassisted goal by Stephanie Patton.

Chicago held a 12-6 advantage in shots.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Gormley (Carmel, Ind./ Carmel) stopped two shots for the Maroons, as did DePauw netminder Caroline Kerr.

Chicago opens the home portion of its 2009 schedule Saturday, Sept. 5 when it entertains Babson College at noon.
