Chicago Defeats Emory

CHICAGO -- Senior forward Brooke Bontz (Fort Collins, Colo./ Poudre) scored the winning goal late in the second half as the 11th-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team rallied for a 2-1 victory over Emory University Saturday at Stagg Field.

Bontz collected a rebound in the box and fired in her sixth goal of the season -- and fifth game-winner in the Maroons' last seven outings -- at the 73:00 mark. The win extended Chicago's (9-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 UAA) unbeaten streak to seven games and its home field winning streak to nine games.

Emory (4-2-4, 0-1-1) scored the only goal of the first half when Talia Dweck converted a penalty kick 29:43 into the contest.

Chicago drew even on junior forward Sarah Loh's (Grand Rapids, Mich./ Forest Hills Northern) sixth goal of the year off a rebound in the box in the 58th minute.

Chicago held a 12-11 edge in shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Gormley (Carmel, Ind./ Carmel) stopped five shots for Chicago, while her Emory counterpart, Kirsten Baecher, made four saves.

The Maroons continue their three-game conference homestand Friday, Oct. 16 when they host the University of Rochester at 7 p.m.
