Maroons Defeat Kalamazoo in O.T.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Senior forward Brooke Bontz (Fort Collins, Colo./ Poudre) scored the winning goal midway through the second overtime period to lift the University of Chicago women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon.
Chicago (5-1) trailed 1-0 late in the match when sophomore forward Allison Hegel (Vienna, Va./ Jefferson) evened the score with her fourth goal of the year with 8:14 remaining in regulation. Junior midfielder Kate Manuelli (Hightstown, N.J./ Peddie School) assisted on Hegel's goal which sent the Maroons into overtime for the first time this season.
Bontz then scored the winning goal off an assist from junior forward Sarah Loh (Grand Rapids, Mich./ Forest Hills Christian) 5:02 into the second extra period. The goal was Bontz's second of the year -- both game-winners -- while Loh collected a point for the fifth time in as many games played this season.
Jackie Short's goal at the 42:50 mark gave Kalamazoo (1-3-1) the lead. Courtney McCoy made 10 saves to keep the Hornets in the match as Chicago posted a 24-6 advantage in shots.
Sophomore netminder Emma Gormley (Carmel, Ind./ Carmel) was credited with one save for the Maroons.
