Maroons Win Non-Conference Finale
CHICAGO -- Playing its final non-conference match of the season, the 15th-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team defeated the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 3-0 Saturday at Stagg Field.
For the seventh time this season, senior forward Brooke Bontz (Fort Collins, Colo./ Poudre) scored the winning goal. Her 10th goal of the season, unassisted 11:32 into the contest, gave Chicago (12-2-1) the only tally it would need.
With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, freshman midfielder Brigette Kragie (Wheaton, Ill./ Wheaton-Warrenville South) scored her first career goal off an assist from junior midfielder Kate Manuelli (Hightstown, N.J./ Peddie School).
Sophomore forward Haleigh Stopa (Normal, Ill./ Central Catholic) capped the scoring with her second goal of the season in the 79th minute.
Sophomore netminder Emma Gormley (Carmel, Ind./ Carmel) collected three saves en route to her fifth shutout of the campaign. Sagan Pizzingrill stopped six shots for the Eagles (4-11-1).
Chicago extended its home non-conference winning streak to 11 games.
The Maroons return to University Athletic Association competition Friday, Oct. 30 when they face New York University at 1:30 p.m. (Eastern).
