Maroons Defeat Illinois Tech

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago women's swimming & diving team improved to 2-0 on the season Friday night with a 165-68 win over the host Illinois Institute of Technology.

Sophomore Tara Levens (Palo Alto, Calif./ Gunn) led the Maroons to first-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.69) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.14) and took top honors in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.31).

Freshman Kathleen Taylor (DeKalb, Ill./ DeKalb) won a pair of events, as she led the way in the 100-yard freestyle (56.75) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.53). She also swam a leg of the Maroons' medley relay.

In the diving competition, freshman Rebecca Schmidt (Carmel, Ind./ Westfield) won both the 1- and 3-meter competitions. Her mark in the 3-meter diving (225.75) was good for a school record.

Chicago hosts the Maroon Invitational Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-7 at the Myers-McLoraine Pool.
