Maroons Open Indoor Season at Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. -- The University of Chicago women's track & field team split a pair of dual meets Saturday at the season-opening University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Duals. Two Maroons met NCAA Division III qualifying standards and four others posted first-place finishes as the Maroons defeated Augustana (Ill.) College 83-63 and fell to the host Titans 95.5-50.5.

Senior Claire Ray (Park Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius) posted an automatic-qualifying distance in the weight throw (17.58 m) and reached the provisional standard in the shot put (13.59). She was the runner-up in both events.

Senior Nicole Murphy (Coppell, Texas/ Coppell) also logged a provisional-qualifying mark in the shot put with a 13.55-meter heave, good for third place.

First-place finishers for the Maroons included senior Emma Finestone (Belmont, Mass./ Belmont) in the long jump (4.96 m), junior Liz Lawton (North Easton, Mass./ Thayer Academy) in the 3,000-meter run (10:29.83), sophomore Paige Peltzer (Atchison, Kan./ Atchison) in the high jump (1.62 m), and sophomore Lauren Adler (Westport, Conn./ Staples) in the triple jump (10.50 m).

Chicago opens the home portion of its 2010 season next Saturday as it hosts the Phoenix Invitational at 11:30 a.m.
