Assistant Masters Swimming Coach

Description
The Assistant Coach will be responsible for on-deck coaching for a select number of workouts per week, writing workouts and light record keeping, and administrative duties as assigned by Head Masters Coach. Applicant must be able to clearly articulate stroke technique, training technique, and do it in an effective manner for a wide range of ability levels. Applicant must be comfortable with working with a wide range of ages, from undergraduates to older faculty, staff, and alumni.

Qualifications
Applicant must have an extensive swimming background. This background must be in competitive swimming. Previous coaching experience is a plus. Working with adult swimmers is also a plus.

Hours & Compensation
Varies, 6 to 10 per week
$11 per hour

Lifeguard

Description
Work study students encouraged to apply. Responsible for general safety and surveillance of pool; rules enforcement; minor maintenance and cleaning duties; paperwork.

Qualifications
Must be certified in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Lifeguard Training. Must pass written test and orientation program.

Swimming Lessons Instructor

Duties
The Swimming Instructor will be responsible for teaching basic swimming technique to beginner children and adults as well as more advanced child swimmers. Applicant must be comfortable with working with children with a wide range of ages, from 3 to 12, as well as adults.

Qualifications
Applicant must have previous swimming lessons/coaching experience with children and/or adults. An American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification is a plus but not a requirement.

Fitness Center Attendant

Description
Work study students encouraged to apply. The fitness center attendant plays an integral part in the provision of services for the department of physical education and athletics. The primary role of the fitness center attendant is to perform general cleaning and monitoring duties. Specific responsibilities include: cleaning and disinfecting fitness equipment, vacuuming equipment and floors, wearing a facilities staff shirt, enforcing fitness center policies, attending mandatory monthly meetings, and occasionally be assigned other duties by a facilities manager.

Qualifications
Interested candidates must be able to pay attention to details when cleaning, have the ability to lift 50 pounds.

Visitor Control Attendant

Work study students preferred. The visitor control attendant (VCA) plays an integral part in the provision of services for the department of physical education and athletics. The primary role of the VCA is to assist in the management of the University of Chicago's athletic and recreational facilities. Duties include monitoring the entrance to the Henry Crown Field House and the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center; selling athletic memberships and gym supplies; checking out gym equipment, towels, and lockers; handling reservations of athletic equipment and facilities; and laundering towels.

Qualifications
Interested candidates must exhibit excellent customer service skills, good computer skills, have the ability to troubleshoot problems diplomatically, and be responsible when handling money.

Event Staff

Intramural Sports Supervisor

Description
Intramural Supervisors are responsible for the direct supervision, operation and management of the Intramural Sports program and its onsite personnel. Supervisors are responsible for such things as game set-up (and tear-down); emphasizing safety amongst participants; enforcing rules and policies and ensuring fair play.

The following sports have positions available throughout the academic year:
Fall Quarter: Volleyball, Flag Football, Kickball, Dodgeball
Winter Quarter: Broomball, Basketball, Indoor Soccer
Spring Quarter: 12" Softball, Outdoor Soccer, Floor Hockey, Innertube Water Polo

Qualifications
Good communication and problem solving skills. Supervisors must be assertive and possess a knowledge and understanding of sports rules (and be able to enforce these rules). Supervisors must also have the ability to mentor and train officials. Work study students are encouraged to apply.

Intramural Sports Office Worker

Office Workers assist with the programs and services offered via the Intramural Sports Office. These duties include the communication of program procedures, sport rules, registration policies, team schedules/standings, and tournament results; daily sports preparation for onsite supervisors; typing and filing of intramural and sport club documents; and assistance with equipment inventory.

Sports Information Game-Day Operations

Description

Sports Information Videographer/Video Producer

Description
Game-day videographers are responsible for shooting live footage of varsity sports events throughout the year. The video producer works in concert with the videographer to execute and broadcast the live feed onto official UChicago Athletics video channels/platforms. The video producer monitors the feed, inserts graphics and cuts in-game highlights.

Qualifications
Strong interest in sports. Knowledge of video production and video editing preferred.

Student First Responder

Work study students encouraged to apply. Students assist the certified athletic trainers in the preparation and coverage of all varsity team practices and competitions.

Qualifications
Previous CPR/FA certification preferred, but the certified athletic trainers can re-certify.

Hours
Work a minimum of 15 hours a week. Must be available from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM, two afternoons a week, as well as available on weekends.
