CHICAGO – University of Chicago baseball player Connor Hickey was picked to the 2017 Academic All-District Baseball Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
A sophomore economics major at UChicago, Hickey has been the driving force at the lead-off spot for an offense that ranks seventh in NCAA Division III with a .349 team batting average. The centerfielder leads the team in numerous categories, including a .434 batting average, 40 runs scored, 32 RBI, 13 steals, a .602 slugging percentage and a .496 on-base percentage. He's also totaled 10 doubles, three triples and one home run.
Hickey's 1.43 runs scored per game ranks ninth in the nation. He is currently riding a 16-game hitting streak.
To be nominated for Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Academic All-Americans will be announced later in the month.
