ST. LOUIS – The University of Chicago baseball team dropped the opening game of a four-game series at Washington University-St. Louis 3-2 on Friday.

The Maroons dropped to 22-12. The No. 15-ranked Bears moved to 23-8.

UChicago was on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. After the first two runners got on base, they were brought in by consecutive RBI sacrifice flies by sophomore catcher Ian Bohn and senior first baseman Thomas Prescott.

However, WashU staged a two-out rally in the bottom of the fourth with three-straight singles that tied the game up. The home team scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run with a RBI double down the right field line in the seventh inning.

Both pitchers hurled complete games. Sophomore Brenton Villasenor (6-3 record) went eight innings with five strikeouts, 11 hits, three walks and two earned runs.

UChicago's batters were limited to three hits on the day.
