CHICAGO – The University of Chicago baseball team was recognized for its high achievement in the classroom by earning the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award.
UChicago was one of 221 college and high school programs feted with the award, which is given to teams coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2016-17 academic year. A total of 60 NCAA Division III schools were among the honorees.
The Maroons recorded a 3.486 cumulative team GPA during its most successful season since 2013. UChicago went 22-15 on the year and boasted one of the best offenses in NCAA Division III. The offense hit for a .334 batting average (11th nationally) with a .412 on-base percentage (22nd).
