Maroon men’s basketball places six players on NABC Honors Court

CHICAGO – Six members of the University of Chicago men's basketball team received recognition on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court for the 2016-17 academic year.

In Tuesday's announcement, the Maroons were represented on the list by Collin Barthel, Jake Fenlon, Alex Gustafson, Tyler Howard, Ryan Shearmire and Porter Veach. It marks the second-straight selection for both Gustafson and Howard.

Eligibility requirements for the NABC Honors Court include:

  • Varsity player with junior or senior academic standing;
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the academic year;
  • Must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution;
  • Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach.

Last week, UChicago men's basketball also received the 2016-17 NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for maintaining a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better.
