CHICAGO – The University of Chicago men's basketball team saw its offense dry up down the stretch and North Park University rallied in the final seconds to beat the Maroons 70-67 on Tuesday night.

UChicago (2-1 record) absorbed its first loss of the season while North Park improved to 1-2.

A pair of free throws by first-year forward Dominic Laravie put the Maroons up 64-53 with eight minutes left in the game. However, UChicago was limited to only three points the rest of the way. The team's last points of the game courtesy of senior forward Collin Barthel's three-pointer from the top of the arc that made it 67-61 with 4:19 remaining.

Trailing by one with less than 10 seconds left, North Park got free in the lane for a layup to take the lead 68-67. UChicago's long inbounds pass was picked off in the final seconds, and the Vikings sank two free throws to ice the game, 70-67.

After an early tie at 6-6, the visitors went on an 18-4 run to seize control of the game. Six different players scored at least five points in the first half, and UChicago went ahead 35-26 at halftime.

UChicago's advantage was chopped all the way down to 55-53 midway through the half. Five-straight points by Fenlon gave his team some breathing room at 62-53.

Fenlon paced the offense once again with 19 points to go with four rebounds. Junior guard Noah Karras tallied 11 points, while Barthel posted 10 points and five rebounds.

North Park held a slight 32-31 edge in rebounding. The Maroons shot 43.9 percent from the field and made 12 of 29 three-pointers (41.4 percent). The Vikings recorded a 47.5 percentage from the field and converted 9 of 30 from long range (30 percent).
