SHENANDOAH, Texas – The University of Chicago swimming and diving teams took down another school record and reached five finals during the second day of the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships on Thursday.
The Maroons posted five more Honorable Mention All-American performances. The men's 400-yard medley relay broke the school record in prelims with a 3:18.73, then bettered that mark even further at 3:17.30 in the finals. The quartet of freshman Byrne Litschgi, freshman Reona Yamaguchi, sophomore Michael Todd and sophomore Alexander Farrell finished in ninth place.
The day's top individual finisher was Alison Wall. The senior took 10th in the women's 200-yard freestyle with a final time in 1:49.97. UChicago's men were represented in the 400-yard IM by freshman Aaron Guo, who took 15th in 4:03.00.
The men's and women's 200-yard freestyle relay mirrored each other as both placed 13th with times of 1:22.20 and 1:34.67, respectively.
In the morning's prelims, two UChicago swimmers set new personal bests. Todd swam 49.96 in the men's 100-yard butterfly and senior Cara LoPiano swam 1:53.42 in the women's 200-yard freestyle.
