UChicago men's tennis competes at first day of ITA Oracle Cup

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The University of Chicago men's tennis team were in action in both singles and doubles at day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Oracle Cup on Thursday.

The ITA Oracle Cup features the NCAA Division III ITA Regional singles and doubles champions facing off in brackets of eight singles players and eight doubles teams.

Singles opened the action as junior No. 2-seed David Liu of UChicago took on Middlebury College's Lubomir Cuba. Middlebury came out on top 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the semifinals. Liu's next match will occur at 8:30 AM (MT) on Friday versus Nikolai Parodi (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps).

In doubles, senior Max Hawkins and freshman Tyler Raclin teamed up to play the No. 2-seeds from Trinity University (Texas) in their opening match. Trinity narrowly took the first set 6-4 before the Maroons answered with a dominating second set, 6-1. The match went to a super-tiebreak in lieu of the third set, and the Tigers won 10-4. UChicago's next opponent will be No. 3-seed University of St. Thomas at 1:00 PM (MT) on Friday.
