CHICAGO – University of Chicago men's tennis player David Liu achieved Academic All-District distinction from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Liu was one of 10 selections in the Men's At-Large category for District 7. As a junior economics major, Liu has played No. 1 singles for the No. 5-ranked UChicago men's tennis team that has defeated 13 nationally-ranked schools this season. He earned ITA All-American status in the fall after winning the ITA Central Region singles championship. Prior to this season, he was a two-time ITA All-American in doubles.
Liu's season records stand at 11-4 in singles and 5-2 in doubles. Over three years, he has amassed 64 singles wins and 54 doubles wins for a total count of 108 victories. The junior was named to the University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Academic Team in 2016 and 2017.
To be nominated for Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Academic All-Americans will be announced later in the month.
