CHICAGO – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) handed out its 2017 Division III regional awards on Thursday and three University of Chicago tennis players were among the honorees.
Two Maroons were picked as the ITA Central Region Rookies of the Year – Erik Kerrigan and Marjorie Antohi. Both freshmen lead their teams in singles victories this year, with Kerrigan sitting at 19-4 for the men and Antohi at 24-4 for the women. The duo has also played primarily at No. 1 doubles for their respective squads this year. Kerrigan is 18-8 and Antohi is 17-10 in doubles contests. They were both named University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookies of the Year earlier this week.
On the men's side, Max Hawkins received ITA Most Improved Senior accolades. Playing primarily at No. 2 doubles, Hawkins set a new career high for wins in a season with a 23-6 mark while also capturing the ITA Central Region doubles championship alongside freshman Tyler Raclin. The senior concludes his four-year career with 59 doubles wins and 23 singles victories.
