CHICAGO – The University of Chicago tennis teams will take part in the NCAA Division III Team and Individual Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. starting on Monday, May 22.
The No. 9-ranked Maroon women's tennis team (18-4 record) will play No. 4-ranked Williams College (17-4) in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Monday at 8:30 AM (ET). The winner will advance to the NCAA Semifinals on Tuesday at 2:00 PM (ET), with the national title match scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00 AM (ET).
Now making their 10th postseason appearance, UChicago's women have reached the quarterfinals seven times, the semifinals four times and the championship match once. The two teams faced off in last year's NCAA quarterfinals as well, with Williams advancing by 5-0 score. The Ephs have won all four of the postseason meetings and earlier this year defeated UChicago 6-3 on March 24.
The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will run Thursday-Saturday, May 25-27. Four Maroons earned inclusion in the 32-player singles draws and 16-team doubles brackets.
Junior Ariana Iranpour will represent the Maroon women for the third-straight year in singles. She owns a 15-8 record playing at the top spot in the lineup. Iranpour is a three-time All-American, including singles twice (2015, 2016) and doubles once (2015). She previously reached the singles quarterfinals in 2015.
Junior Nicolas Chua is also a three-time NCAA singles qualifier. Chua possesses an overall singles record of 17-8 as the team's resident No. 1. He has accumulated two All-American awards in singles (2015, 2016) and one in doubles (2016).
Freshman Erik Kerrigan will take part in both the men's singles and doubles brackets. In his debut season, Kerrigan tied for the team lead in singles wins at 19-4. He is joined in doubles by freshman teammate Ninan Kumar, where the duo owns a 16-8 record while playing primarily at the No. 1 position.
