GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – The University of Chicago track and field teams earned wins in two events to highlight their efforts at the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.
Chicagolands featured teams from NCAA Division I, II and III as well as NAIA. UChicago's men placed in the top five in six different events. The 5,000 meters were particularly successful for the Maroons as they had three racers finish in the top five. Sophomore Gareth Jones led the charge with a winning time of 14:47.08. He was followed in second place by junior teammate Michael Frasco in 14:59.86 and senior Kevin On in fifth (15:18.92). Senior Renat Zalov came very close to a victory himself in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing runner-up by only 0.32 seconds in a time of 9:40.77.
The Maroon women placed top five in four different competitions. Sophomore Michelle Dobbs topped the field in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.1, with junior Brianna Hickey finishing fourth in 2:24.8. Sophomore Madeleine Horvath placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:42.90.
