Maroon women's track and field finishes second, men take third at UAA Championships

WALTHAM, Mass. – The University of Chicago track and field teams wrapped up the two-day University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships by capturing second place on the women's side and third place on the men's side on Sunday.

Washington University-St. Louis took the women's team title with 159 points. UChicago was runner-up with 99 points in the seven-team field. On the men's half, Carnegie Mellon University scored 116.33 points to earn the UAA championship. The Maroons were third with 77.33 points.

UChicago's men tallied four UAA event titles on the day. Junior Patrick LeFevre won the 55-meter hurdles for the second-straight season with a time of 7.73. Junior Nathan Downey grabbed the 200-meter title in 22.62. Freshman Alexander Scott made his UAA debut memorable with a shot put victory, heaving the best mark of 14.50 meters.

The day's closest result came in the men's 55 meters. In a photo finish, senior Temisan Osowa was first across the line in 6.521 seconds. He edged out the runner-up by a mere 0.007 seconds.

UChicago also posted a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with freshman Tyson Miller, freshman Elliott Paintsil, sophomore Ben Chaimberg and Downey.

The Maroon women seized the UAA title in the high jump. Sophomore Alexandra Thompson recorded the top height at 1.64 meters. Junior Ade Ayoola was in a three-way tie for second place at 1.59 meters.

Junior Khia Kurtenbach was runner-up in the 3,000 meters in 9:46.30. The winner and Kurtenbach both surpassed the previous UAA record of 9:47.24. UChicago tallied three other All-UAA performances with third-place showings by junior Megan Verner-Crist in the one mile, freshman Robin Peter in the 55-meter hurdles and freshman Alisha Harris in the 55 meters.
