CHICAGO – Three members of the University of Chicago track and field teams were selected as Athletes of the Week by the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Monday.

The Maroon trio achieved All-American status at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend in Birmingham, Ala.

Sophomore Joe Previdi was the UAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week after leading UChicago with a second-place finish in the men's 800 meters. The neck-and-neck finish between the competitors was separated by a mere 0.03 seconds. Previdi's time of 1:51.83 broke his own school record.

The UAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week was senior Nathan Downey. He finished sixth overall in the men's pole vault with a final height of 4.90 meters.

Sophomore Laura Darcey garnered UAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors. Darcey shattered the pentathlon school record with 3,487 points – a full 195 points more than the previous mark. She placed sixth in that event on Friday, and followed up on Saturday with a fifth-place showing in the high jump at 1.68 meters.
