CHANNAHON, Ill. – The University of Chicago women's cross country team continued its dominance of the University of St. Francis Invitational while the Maroon men's squad placed second on Friday evening.
The UChicago women won the USF Invite for the third year in-a-row, taking first of 11 teams with 36 points scored. The next closest school was Trinity Christian College with 65 points.
On the men's side, the Maroons placed second out of 13 teams in the field with 39 points. Host St. Francis earned the team win with 28 points.
Khia Kurtenbach began her senior year strong with a runner-up finish in 17:37.1 over the 5K course. She was joined by a trio of teammates in the top 10 individually – senior Kelsey Dunn (sixth), senior Claire Costelloe (eighth) and sophomore Claire Brockway (ninth).
Ryan Cutter made an impressive collegiate debut as the freshman was UChicago's top finisher in the 5K with a sixth-place showing. He crossed the line in 15:29.3. Fellow freshman Jordan Olson was close behind in eighth in 15:37.6. Junior Jacob Gosselin (15:40.3) and sophomore Ralph Patejunas (15:43.9) took ninth and tenth, respectively.
Both squads packed up together effectively during the race. UChicago's women placed seven racers between sixth and 14th place, and the men snagged eighth through 13th place.
