UChicago women's basketball absorbs 59-44 defeat at Texas-Dallas

DALLAS – A tough first quarter put the University of Chicago women's basketball team behind and the visitors were dealt a 59-44 road loss at University of Texas-Dallas on Friday.

The Maroons (6-4 record) dropped their third-straight game while the Comets (8-2) stretched their win streak to six.

UChicago was held to season-lows in points (44) and field-goal percentage (30.8 percent). Texas-Dallas won the battle on the boards 46-36 and in the turnover column 16-18.

The home side took a 6-0 lead to start the game and held the advantage for the rest of the game. A 12-5 run to end the first quarter put the Comets ahead 22-10. The Maroons lowered the deficit to single digits early in the second quarter, but Texas-Dallas kept its rhythm and headed into halftime up 35-21. In the second half, the Comets held a double-digit lead the rest of the way and kept the Maroons at bay to get the win.

Freshman forward Taylor Lake was a bright spot for the visitors with 15 points off the bench. Senior forward Britta Nordstrom added eight points and six rebounds.
