ELMHURST, Ill. – Despite a quick start, the University of Chicago wrestling team lost at Elmhurst College 37-12 in Friday night's dual meet.
The Maroons fell to 3-8 on the season and the Bluejays improved to 5-2.
Sophomore Devan Richter continued his hot streak with yet another first-period pin. This time, the 125-pounder stuck his opponent at the one-minute mark for his seventh pin of the year. Freshman teammate Louis Demarco followed right up with a 3-1 decision at 133 pounds to stake UChicago to a 9-0 lead in the team score.
But Elmhurst took over from that point on and won seven of the final eight matches. The Bluejays secured two pins, two technical falls and two forfeits. Junior Paul Papoutsis provided the final UChicago win of the evening – a 6-2 decision at 174 pounds.
