CLAREMONT, Calif. Freshman Katie Jasminski netted her first career goal in the 30th minute to kickstart the No. 3 University of Chicago women's soccer team to a season-opening, 3-1 win at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Friday.

Jasminski connected on the game's lone goal of the first half via an assist from classmate Charlotte Waechter to give the Maroons (1-0) an early lead and the advantage at the break.

Sophomore Adrianna Vera extended the Maroons' lead just one minute out of halftime with her score in the 46th, benefiting from a pass from senior midfielder Kelsey Moore. UChicago would take a commanding three-goal lead at 59:59, when sophomore Hanna Watkins beat the keeper via a pass from junior Sydney Mathis.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps avoided the shutout with Rhiann Holman's unassisted goal off a free kick to create the game's final 3-1 score.

The Maroons dominated play by outshooting the Athenas (0-1) by a 13-5 margin, allowing just two shots on goal.  Vera and senior Mia Calamari led the way with three shots each and teammate Maddie DeVoe added two shots, both on goal.

CMS won the advantage in corner kicks, 7-4.

Maroons' sophomore keeper Katie Donovan picked up the win after playing 68 minutes in goal, with freshman Miranda Malone preserving the win in the final 22.
