CHICAGO – University of Chicago's Mary Martin picked up her first career Athlete of the Week designation from the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Monday.
UChicago took part in its first outdoor track and field meet of the season on April 1, hosting the annual Ted Haydon Invitational. The Maroon women's team won 11 events and handily finished atop the 14-team standings.
Martin led the way with three wins on the day, which helped her earn UAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week status. The freshman submitted the winning long jump distance of 5.47 meters, which currently ranks 15th in NCAA Division III. Martin was also victorious in the 100 meters (12.72) and ran a leg on the winning 4x100-meter relay. The combined time of 49.02 ranks as the 18th-fastest relay in the nation.
