CHICAGO – The University of Chicago volleyball team picked up a 2016-17 Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Monday.
Now in its 25th year, the AVCA Team Academic Award is given to a college or high school squad that maintains at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
UChicago volleyball owned a 3.49 cumulative team GPA at the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year. On the court, the Maroons posted an 18-11 season record and earned the No. 1 seed in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship. They went 7-0 in UAA Round Robin competition for the first time in program history.
UChicago kicks off its 2017 season at the Saint Mary's Classic on Sept. 1-2 in Winona, Minn.
