CHICAGO – The University of Chicago volleyball team received the 2017-18 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award on Monday.
UChicago was one of 973 total teams to garner the AVCA Team Academic Award, which is given to collegiate and high school volleyball squads that maintained at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. The program began in the 1992-93 season and has seen an increased number of recipients every year since 2000-01. A total of 173 NCAA Division III schools were on the list – the most among all college divisions.
The Maroons concluded 2017 with a 23-9 overall record and a return to the NCAA postseason. They kick off their 2018 campaign by hosting the Gargoyle Classic on August 31 and September 1.
