Director of Summer Programs Dick Maloney

Entering his 14th year as director, Dick Maloney has overseen the development of Summer Sports Programs from a morning-only program with 40 campers to a morning, afternoon, and full-day camp with an enrollment of 260 in 2005. This growth is a tribute to his guidance and foresight developed through his more than 30 years of summer camp experience.

Maloney is an associate professor in the U. of C. physical education department and the very successful head football coach. Maloney holds a B.S. in elementary education and an M.S. in educational administration.

Associate Director Ruth Kmak

Ruth Kmak has been assisting the Summer Sports Programs since her arrival at Chicago and has risen through the summer staff ranks to her present position.

As Chicago’s outstanding head softball coach, Kmak’s teams have been a perennial selection in the NCAA Division III playoffs. A Notre Dame graduate, Kmak also teaches in the Chicago physical education department as an associate professor.

Assistant Directors & Counselors

The SUMMER SPORTS PROGRAMS staff is composed of University of Chicago faculty members, head and assistant coaches, and student-athletes (no high school age students are hired as counselors).

The camp prides itself in offering a mature and knowledgeable summer staff, including assistant camp directors:
