Staff

The Super Summer Sports Program staff is comprised of University of Chicago faculty members, head and assistant coaches, and student-athletes (no high school age students are hired as counselors). The camp prides itself in offering a mature and knowledgeable summer staff.

Director of Summer Programs Dick Maloney

Entering his 13th year as director, Dick Maloney has overseen the development of Super Summer Sports Camp from a morning-only program with 40 campers to a morning, afternoon, and full-day camp with an enrollment of 260 in 2005. This growth is a tribute to his guidance and foresight developed through his more than 30 years of summer camp experience. Maloney is an associate professor in the University of Chicago physical education department and the very successful head football coach. Maloney holds a B.S. in elementary education and an M.S. in educational administration.


Associate Director Ruth Kmak

Ruth Kmak has been assisting the Super Summer Sports Camp since her arrival at Chicago and has risen through the summer staff ranks to her present position. As Chicago’s outstanding head softball coach, Kmak’s teams have been an annual selection in the NCAA Division III playoffs. A Notre Dame graduate, Kmak also teaches in the Chicago physical education department as an assistant professor.


Maroon Tennis Camp Director Marty Perry

With 14 years of tennis camp experience to his credit, Marty Perry has been helping grow the game of tennis in America. In his fourth year as the head men's and women's tennis coach at the University of Chicago, he has led both teams to their first NCAA tournament apperance and has produced a pair of All-Americans. Before moving to the college ranks in 1998, Perry was a resident professional at the Van der Meer Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina. His tennis camp experience inlcudes serving as assistant director of the PP&D Tennis Camp and Nike Camps at William & Mary. An assistant professor at the University of Chicago, Perry also serves as a collegiate coaching staff member for the College Coaching Academy – the only camp in the country taught exclusively by college head coaches.
