CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago volleyball team won a pair of matches on the first day of the 2009 University Athletic Association Championship Friday at the Ratner Athletics Center. After defeating Carnegie Mellon University in five sets, the Maroons swept Brandeis University in three. Sophomore outside hitter Colleen Belak (Louisville, Ky./ Presentation) hit 22 kills in the two contests. Chicago completes pool play Saturday at 10 a.m. against fourth-ranked Emory University. A victory would put the Maroons in the title match.
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The University of Chicago volleyball team won pair of matches Saturday on the second and final day of the Illinois Wesleyan University Classic. With the two victories, the Maroons improved to 25-13 to match their winningest season in 13 years. Freshman middle blocker Caroline Brander (River Forest, Ill./ Trinity) finished the day with 16 kills and 11 blocks.
CHICAGO -- Freshman middle blocker Katie Trela (Glencoe, Ill./ Regina Dominican) hit 10 kills and collected three blocks as the University of Chicago volleyball team defeated Dominican University 25-17, 25-20, 25-22 Wednesday night at the Ratner Athletics Center. With their seventh victory in as many home matches, the Maroons improved to 22-10 on the season. 
NEW YORK CITY -- The University of Chicago volleyball team split two matches on the final day of University Athletic Association Round Robin competition Sunday at New York University. As a result of Sunday's action, the Maroons concluded UAA Round Robin play with a 4-3 record, which gives them the third seed at the Association Championship.
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago volleyball team won both of its matches Saturday on the second and final day of the Gargoyle Classic to finish the tournament with a 4-0 record. Sophomore outside hitter Isis Smalls (Humble, Texas/ Atascocita) finished the event with 50 kills (3.57 per set) and a .378 attack percentage. 
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago volleyball team swept Lake Forest College 25-17, 25-14, 25-20 in its home opener Wednesday night at the Ratner Athletics Center. Sophomore libero Liane Rousseau (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Mount Notre Dame) served five aces in the match, including three down the stretch in the third and final set.
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago freshman Samantha Brown (Louisville, Ky./ Mercy Academy) has been selected as the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for volleyball, the conference announced today. Brown averaged 5.74 digs per set as the Maroons won three of five matches during the first week of the 2009 campaign.
