Brian Bock enters his 16th year at UChicago in 2018-19. He was named the Associate Athletic Director for Recreation and Fitness in February 2018. In that role, Bock provides oversight and leadership for the department's recreational sports and fitness programs. His areas of supervision include sport clubs, intramurals, recreational sports, fitness classes, personal training and facility rentals.
Bock previously held the title of Assistant Athletic Director of Intramurals, Recreation and Sport Clubs. The intramural program features 32 sports, more than 900 teams, approximately 8,400 participants and nearly 2,200 games per year. Sport clubs are made up of approximately 1,100 members annually in 39 different activities.
Bock's experience within the Department of Athletics & Recreation also includes stints as Athletic Facilities Manager – Membership Services (2004-08) and Athletic Facilities Manager – Scheduling/Equipment Room (2003-04).
Bock graduated with a bachelor's degree from Augustana University (S.D.), where he was also a four-year starter on the men's basketball team. He later received his master's degree in physical education (sports administration) from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
