Ned Merriam was a star runner and long-time track & field coach at Chicago during the first half of the 20th century. He was a three-time Big Ten champion in the 440-yard dash and in 1908 competed in the 400-meter dash as a member of the U.S. Olympic Team. Merriam later served as head track & field coach at Chicago from 1929-50.
