John Schommer is considered one of the Big Ten's first great basketball players. Schommer was a three-time All-American from 1907-09. He led Chicago to three consecutive Big Ten championships and was the first player to lead the Big Ten in scoring three times. Schommer, who also competed in baseball, football, and track & field, was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959.
