Coonemara region/National Park - stops at Coonemara Marble Factory, Kylemore Abbey, and Dan O'Hara's Cottage
We spent the day at various stops along the south western countryside. The first stop was at the Coonemara Marble Factory where we learned about the mining, cutting, and polishing of green Irish marble that is exported all over the world. Next, we toured Kylemore Abbey, an absolutely gorgeous castle that sits on the side of a mountain overlooking a lake. We ended the afternoon with a tractor tour of Dan O'Hara's cottage. On the scenic ride, we learned about the history and culture of the area. In sum, the day provided many enriching experiences that enabled us to understand why Ireland is such a unique place.
