Men's Soccer updates from Europe: August 12

Midway through their summer travel in Croatia and Slovenia, the Maroon men's soccer team tied their second game 1-1 against NK Buje of the Croatian third division. Located a few miles inland from Umag where the team has set up camp, the Buje boys were a very organized and skillful side. Like their first game, UChicago gave up a first-half goal, but grew in confidence and cohesion as the game progressed. After several good opportunities on goal by Nic Lopez and Kyle Kurfirst, the Maroons finally leveled in the second half. Terrell White, again deputized as a striker like last game, was taken down in the penalty box from a corner. Nick Codispoti grabbed the honors and converted from the 11-meter spot.

When not on the field, the last few days have provided plenty of time along the coast in Umag. The boys have returned from daily beach sojourns with rather large smiles. A few days ago, they visited a Roman coliseum down the coast in Pula and spent an afternoon walking the stone streets of Rovinj.

Up next is a visit up the Istrian coast to Piran and more games against Slovenian opposition.
