Men's Track & Field / Middle Distance / Sophomore / Philadelphia, Pa.
Majors: Mathematics and Physics
Joe Previdi is a sophomore runner for the UChicago men's track and field team. At last weekend's UAA Indoor Championships, Previdi won the 800 meters in a time of 1:54.88, topping the runner-up by 0.43 seconds.
Head Coach Chris Hall: "Joe was the individual champion in the 800-meter run this weekend. His time in the 800-meter finals places him No. 5 on our all-time indoor honor roll and is also currently 21st nationally. The 800 was an extremely competitive field with six runners within one second of each other going into the finals. Joe led the majority of the race before being passed on the home straight with a lap to go. He made a big move on the back straight of the final lap to re-take the lead and took it to the finish line. It was a huge emotional lift for our team late in the meet and allowed us to get back to third in the meet."
Teammate Owen Melia: "Joe has been an inspiring teammate this season. In his races, he shows his teammates how to totally commit to a race and how to fiercely compete each weekend. We can see on his face just how hard he works for a win. In practice, Joe is an integral part of his training group. He carries a presence that keeps the team’s mood light yet dedicated, and it’s obvious that he cares deeply for all of his teammates. It has been an honor and a pleasure to be Joe’s teammate, and I can’t wait to see what comes next for him, whether it’s continued success in the indoor season or a haircut."
