Matthew Koh

Matthew Koh

Men's Soccer / Forward / Senior / Santa Monica, Calif.

Major: Economics

Matthew Koh is a senior forward for the UChicago men's soccer team. Last Saturday, Koh scored two goals as the Maroons won 4-2 at No. 2-ranked North Park University. He leads the team in points with four goals and one assist through four games this season.

Head Coach Mike Babst: "Matt has already scored two game winners and the third goal against Trinity this season. He has improved as a player every year, and this seasonhas started out at an even greater level. He has the ability to change the game at any moment and has done so in our four games so far this season. Matt's speed in the attack must always be accounted for."

Teammate Josh Scofield: "Matt is definitely the kind of guy you love to have on your team and hate to play against. Anyone who's seen him play knows he terrorizes defenses for 90 minutes every game, even when they know exactly what's coming. But aside from his freakish athleticism, I think it's really his mentality that sets him apart. Even though he's an attacking player, you can see how much he cares in his work rate to get back defensively and how hard he pushes his teammates in practice. Matt is a pretty soft-spoken guy, but when he speaks everyone listens, and a lot of that respect has come from how he's led by example since his freshman year. He's a fierce competitor and an incredible teammate and friend - I couldn't imagine my four years of soccer here without him."

Mike McGinley (Football)

  • Head Coach Chris Wilkerson: "Michael has played the best football of his career through the first two weeks of the season. His ability to cause chaos at the line of scrimmage for our opponents has been outstanding. Right now he leads our team in tackles for loss (3) and sacks (2). He has battled through some injuries but has done an amazing job. He has continued to improve every year and is playing at a high level right now. I know he will do anything to help our team and will continue to battle no matter what the situation. Michael brings outstanding energy, enthusiasm and toughness. I look forward to watching him lead our team the remainder of this fall as we enter Midwest Conference play."
