Football / Quarterback / Freshman / San Diego, Calif.
Jeffrey Jackson is a first-year quarterback for the UChicago men's football team. In his first collegiate start on Saturday, Jackson completed 22 of 31 passes for 234 yards, four touchdowns and one interception to lead the Maroons to a dominating 56-9 victory over Illinois College. The offense totaled 470 yards and averaged 6.7 yards per play – both season highs. He was named Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week on Monday.
Head Coach Chris Wilkerson: "Jeffrey had a great day on Saturday. He completed passes to 10 different receivers. He also ran for 26 additional yards while leading our offense to its highest point total (56) since 2010. He has done an outstanding job learning the offense and getting to know his teammates. Jeffrey has played with extreme grit and composure so far this season while continuing to compete and improve by the day. I know he will do anything to help our team and will continue to battle no matter what the situation. Jeffrey has done a great job leading our offense and I look forward to watching him continue to grow as a player and as a person."
Teammate Tucker Squiers: "Jeffrey had an outstanding weekend on the field. He has also been an outstanding addition to the offense, but not only as the quarterback, but also as a teammate. All he wants to do, and everything he does is win... It’s an infectious feeling. Throughout everything, though, he cares about his teammates and has been a big help in creating a cohesive offense. He has been an amazing first year and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season plays out with him guiding our offense!"
