Josh Scofield

Josh Scofield

Men's Soccer / Defense / Senior / Oberlin, Ohio

Majors: Molecular Engineering and Public Policy

Josh Scofield is a senior defender for the UChicago men's soccer team. Scofield helped lead a defensive unit that record a pair of shutouts against No. 5-ranked Trinity University (Texas) and No. 13-ranked Luther College in the NCAA Round of 16 and Quarterfinals over the weekend. The Maroons advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the second-straight year.

Head Coach Mike Babst: "Josh was a big part of us earning two shutouts in the third and fourth rounds of the tournament. He trains as hard as any player, remains positive in spite of any team or personal adversity, and is ready to do anything for his teammates. He's had so much to do with establishing the culture and commitment of this team in ways that might not be as visible to those outside the locker room. He has been an amazing leader for this team."

Teammate Nicco Capotosto: "Josh's importance to both the team and the program can't be overstated. He's brought an immense amount of energy, speed, and accountability to our team this season after being sidelined for a large part of the year in 2017. When he came back from injury, it was like getting a new player. His defensive contributions in the last month have been absolutely critical in helping the team reach another Final Four. He also uses a lot of energy off the field as the team's social butterfly. His sincerity, sense of humor, and intellectual curiosity set him apart as one of the best teammates anyone could ask for. I'm grateful to have been in the same class as Josh and know his qualities will be missed by the program for years to come."

Other OOC nominees

Scott Wu (Men's Swimming & Diving)

  • Head Coach Jason Weber: "Scott proved to be a driving force in our remarkable men’s performance this weekend, not only with his swims but with his energy and enthusiasm. He recorded multiple personal and season bests which is a tribute to his amazing work ethic, and he pumped up a bunch of his teammates which helped them to record-setting swims as well. Scott even got on the mic to pump up the spectators and also secured some timers to help run the meet."
