Men's Track & Field / Throws / Senior / Plover, Wis.
Alexander Scott is a senior thrower on the UChicago men's track & field team. In his season debut at the Phoenix Invitational on Saturday, Scott won the weight throw and shot put. His shot put toss of 17.53 meters set a new school record and currently ranks No. 1 in all of NCAA Division III.
Head Coach Chris Hall: "Alex won two events at the Phoenix Invite this weekend. In the weight throw, he finished with a distance of 16.05 meters which currently ranks him No. 1 in the UAA and No. 21 in the NCAA. This was a really nice opener for Alex, but the highlight of his day came in the shot put where he threw a distance of 17.53 meters. That distance set a new school record by more than a meter, places him No. 1 in the UAA and he is also currently leading NCAA Division III with that throw. I'm really pleased to see a lot of really hard work paying off for Alex. Not only did he put in a great deal of time in the weight room this summer, I saw him from a distance on a few occasions this summer in Washington Park throwing a shot put by himself. I know Alex has high goals after disappointingly getting hurt at the indoor NCAAs last year and he seems to be well on his way to accomplishing them all."
Teammate Christopher Dann: "If you’re searching for someone who exemplifies hard work, determination and athletic talent, look to Alex and the accomplishments he’s accrued over his collegiate career. He’s been a leader and mentor to myself and all of the throwers, pushing us to become the best athletes we can be. What’s more is he leads by example. You’ll be hard-pressed to find someone more focused and driven in the throwing circle or in weight room, but is also always down for a good laugh and some throwing advice. He’s a gifted competitor, stalwart teammate, good friend, and very deserving of his school record and nation-leading performance this past week."
