Mike Martinson

Mike Martinson

Football / Running Back / Junior / Brea, Calif.

Major: Computer Science

Mike Martinson is a junior running back on the UChicago football team. The Maroons won last weekend's Homecoming game 37-6 over Knox College. Martinson averaged 20.2 yards per punt return and 5.8 yards per carry on the day, scoring one rushing touchdown in the process.

Head Coach Chris Wilkerson: "Michael had another explosive day on Saturday. He does a lot of different things for our football team. He continued to do well returning punts with five punt returns for 101 yard and added another 76 yards rushing and a touchdown on just 13 carries. Michael is a driven and focused competitor. He is always willing to do anything for the good of the team. I look forward to watching his grittiness as we finish the season."

Teammate Brian Uhler: "Michael is a hardworking and driven player who is valuable all over the field, starting at running back and also on three of the special teams units. He’s a player that trusts his teammates and his teammates trust him. He is a confident player but isn’t boastful, making him the sort of person that leads by example. Michael plays consistently well in his many roles on the team, all the while maintaining a stable and steady team-oriented attitude."

Other OOC Nominees

Will Norton (Men's Cross Country)

  • Head Coach Chris Hall: "Will had a really good summer of training. But as he arrived for preseason, he was dealing with a foot problem that simply did not allow him to compete up to his ability/fitness level. Will has continued to persevere throughout the fall and had really great practices over the past couple of weeks. His performance this past weekend as our No. 3 man on the day has extended his season. He placed fifth overall but was the fourth collegiate finisher and really helped our team to a great finish, scoring only 22 points in the meet. This was a lifetime-best performance for Will in cross country and a time that was more than a minute faster than what he ran at the same meet in 2018."
