Volleyball / Setter / Sophomore / Fort Mill, S.C.
Autumn Mitchell is a sophomore setter for the UChicago volleyball team. Previously serving as a defensive specialist, Mitchell switched positions and has appeared in seven matches so far this season. The No. 11-ranked Maroons own a 25-3 record.
Head Coach Sharon Dingman: "Autumn's influence on our team's success is seen by her teammates and coaches. As our back-up setter, she is the most important person in our gym for every practice. She has an unwavering commitment to the team's success, and a motor that never stops. She trains hard, she practices hard and she constantly strives to get better. Autumn is the ultimate example of 'Program Above Self'. She lives our mantra every day. The reason we have experienced the level of success we have, is because we have a very capable and competitive second setter in Autumn."
Teammate Emma Griffith: "Autumn is an integral part of our team. She went from walking on last year as a DS (defensive specialist), to completely changing her position over the summer and becoming a setter this year. Sharon says it all the time that Autumn is the most important person in the gym and it's true because we wouldn't be able to run practice without her. She is an incredible athlete and always motivates us in the weight room and on the court. I'm so impressed by Autumn's ability to step up and play her hardest in every practice while also focusing on improving her technique on every ball. Autumn is also hilarious and always ready with a sarcastic comment or funny joke to lighten the mood. We are all so lucky to be on a team with her and play with her every day!"
