Sarika Temme-Bapat

Women's Track & Field / Middle Distance / Sophomore / Duluth, Ga.

Major: Biological Sciences

Sarika Temme-Bapat is a sophomore middle distance runner on the UChicago women's track & field team. At the Grand Valley State Classic, Temme-Bapat ran a lifetime-best time of 10:28.77 in the 3,000 meters.

Head Coach Chris Hall: "After a really challenging first year in which Sarika was dealing with a number of injuries, she has now been healthy and training well for an extended period of time. Her training has been exceptional (logging a lot more miles than the majority of our team) and it is really beginning to pay off. Sarika opened the season with a new PR in the mile run a week ago and this weekend ran another lifetime best in the 3K that currently places her seventh in the UAA behind four of her teammates. The times she is currently running and the confidence she is showing while racing is a lot of fun to watch. Sarika has some fantastic teammates running in front of her, but her ranks in the UAA among other teams would place her second in the mile and third in the 3K. She is giving our team tremendous depth right now and doing so with an exceptionally positive attitude and work ethic."

Teammate Sophie Elgamal: "This season, Sarika has stepped up in so many ways. At practice, she gives the team a spark and changes our whole team dynamic with her energy. This season, Sarika has gone above and beyond anyone’s expectations after overcoming injury. Her tenacity and drive in her race this past weekend demonstrates this and makes her a force to be reckoned with. I speak for the team when I say we are so excited to see what she accomplishes this season! Off the track, Sarika is just as driven. She holds a variety of leadership roles and really knows how to rally a group together. She genuinely cares about everyone on the team, and is someone everyone is comfortable going to for help or guidance. It has been so fun being able to run with Sarika for the past two years and I am so proud to be her teammate!"
