Women's Track & Field / Jumps & Multis / Senior / Teddington, England
Laura Darcey is a senior jumper on the UChicago women's track & field team. At UChicago's Margaret Bradley Invitational, Darcey set a new school record in the 60-meter dash at 7.75 seconds. She also won the high jump (1.69 meters).
Head Coach Chris Hall: "Laura ran the 60-meter dash for the first time at UChicago and ended up setting our school record and went to No. 12 in the country in that event. This was the highlight of the day for her as she won the event as well. Laura also won the high jump with another consistent performance. As things stand right now, she is ranked in the following positions nationally - No. 1 in the pentathlon, No. 3 in the high jump, No. 9 in the long jump, No. 12 in the 60-meter dash and No. 28 in the 60-meter high hurdles. Personally I never saw this coming, in terms of her time in the 60-meter dash. We were looking at this weekend as an opportunity for her to try something new going into UAAs, kind of just for fun. She ran a really strong prelim but came back in finals to an even much better performance. It has been really cool watching her as a senior and how all the hard work has paid off for her."
Other WAA Nominees
Hannah Subramaniam (Women's Swimming & Diving)
- Head Coach Jason Weber: "Hannah had her best competition as a Maroon, achieving lifetime bests in multiple events at the Midwest Invite. We were all excited to see Hannah do so well since she is one of the hardest workers on the team and such a supportive teammate. Hannah really stepped up her training since the start of winter quarter and also had to overcome some adversity leading up to her final meet, which made her accomplishments even that much more impressive."
