Softball / Third Base & Shortstop / Sophomore / Granada Hills, Calif.
Savannah Pinedo is a sophomore on the UChicago softball team. The Maroons made their season debut over the weekend, with Pinedo contributing a .571 batting average, .625 on-base percentage and three RBI.
Head Coach Ruth Kmak: "Sav has been working diligently at practice on her hitting and fielding. She has been working at two positions on defense (third base and shortstop) and doing her best to improve at each. She was a little jittery to begin our first games of the season on Sunday, but composed herself quickly and made some outstanding plays, including a huge diving catch on a line drive down the line! Sav also came through at the plate with a big hit to tie the second game in the bottom of the seventh. She played with urgency and inspired her teammates."
Teammate Emma Nelson: "Sav showed up big time this weekend when the team needed her most! With a couple of clutch hits and a stellar on-base percentage, she led the team at the plate. Sav offers a lot of great versatility defensively — holding it down on the left side of the infield. Overall her presence is unmatched and you’d be hard pressed to find a second where she isn’t giving her all leading cheers in the dugout, making a diving snag, hitting the cover off the ball, or tearing it up on the base paths. It’s been an absolute pleasure playing with her the last two years and I can’t wait to see all she continues to accomplish!"
