Women's Cross Country / Junior / West Simsbury, Conn.
Major: Computer Science
Annika Hildebrandt is a junior runner on the Maroon women's cross country team. At Wheaton College's Gil Dodds Invitational on Saturday, Hildebrandt set a new personal record with a time of 22:45 in the women's 6K race. She placed 10th overall out of 171 competitors.
Head Coach Chris Hall: "Annika had by far her best-ever cross country meet this past weekend. Last track season, she really began to break down some barriers and scored for us in the UAA 10K. I feel that performance gave her a lot more confidence in her ability to perform at this level. She has competed consistently well so far this season. But on a day where we were competing without two runners that have consistently been in our top five, we were in need of someone to step into a scoring role against really good competition. Annika responded with a wonderful race and was quick to put herself into a position to help our team. She showed really great toughness in the last 2K of the race, holding off a late charge from some really outstanding runners to place 10th in the meet with a new lifetime PR of more than one minute."
Teammate Maggie Boudreau: "It has been inspiring to watch Annika gain confidence with each season and realize how much she has to contribute to the team as a runner, a country music fan and a caring, dedicated teammate."
Other WAA nominees
Fredericka Paulson (Volleyball)
- Head Coach Sharon Dingman: "After seeing limited action in her first two years, Freddie has developed into one of our go-to players this fall. Her presence on the court is felt in every facet of the game. What is most obvious is her physicality at the net. However, she is also a great passer and back-row defender. Freddie is a calm and confident competitor."
