Gerald Ratner Athletics Center: Policies and Procedures (Member Access)

 

In accordance with guidance from the Chicago Department of Public Health and UChicago Medicine, Athletics & Recreation has modified its building capacity and facility operations to ensure the health and safety of all visitors and building staff to minimize exposure and spread of the coronavirus.

At this time, we are pleased to announce that we will be expanding access to the Ratner Athletics Center to faculty, faculty emeriti and staff for Winter Quarter 2021.

We will offer complimentary memberships for faculty and staff for the month of January. Starting on February 1, 2021, monthly memberships will be available for a fee of $20.00/month. Advance membership registration is required in order to access the reservation system for use of Ratner facilities.

Please note that monthly memberships may be subject to temporary suspension if University, city, state, or national guidelines change.

At this time, we regret that we are unable to extend this expanded access to spouses, partners and children of faculty, faculty emeriti or staff or to members of the Hyde Park community. This restriction is in place to assure adequate access for students, faculty and staff members.

A special cardio and weight training area has been established in the auxiliary gymnasium that will provide equipment and training space for members.

Reservations must be made 24-72 hours in advance in order to access the swimming pool and cardio and weight training facilities. Due to restrictions on group play and the use of shared equipment, the competition gym and dance studio will not be available for use.

Locker room access is limited to members with swimming reservations and locker and towel service will not be available.

Please read the protocols that are in place to assure that all patrons are able to participate safely.

RESERVATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Online Reservation System
    • Faculty and staff must complete the online training and attestation process in order to access campus buildings including the Ratner Athletics Center. Please complete the process before making facility reservations - https://goforward.uchicago.edu/health-requirements/#training. Faculty and staff returning to campus must complete the 7-day "stay at home" period before using the facilities.
    • Prior registration is required for all visits to the Ratner Athletics Center.
    • Registration may be found at the ONLINE RESERVATION link below, and you will need to login with your CNET ID and password. If you cannot access the page, you will need to logout of any other Outlook account that is signed in on your device.
    • Reservations will be open 72 hours prior to the time slot and close 24 hours prior.
    • Reservation Instructions
      • Choose the area of the building you would like to utilize (you will not be able to move between spaces during your allotted time)

        • Swimming Pool
      • Choose the date and time of your desired reservation. Slots will disappear when they have been filled.
      • Enter your name, UChicago email, and phone number
      • Verify that you have read and abide by all University policies related to COVID-19 by entering your CNET ID
      • Clicking “Book” will bring you to a confirmation page, and you will receive a confirmation email.
      • If you need to cancel your reservation, use the link provided in the confirmation email
      • You will receive a reminder email 12 hours prior to your reservation
    • Please limit yourself to one reservation per day
    • Please utilize the slot you reserve or cancel your reservation more than 24 hours in advance. Slots that are booked but not utilized take away opportunities from other patrons.
    • We understand that last minute changes will happen, but consistently booking and not utilizing reservations may impact your ability to make future reservations.

  • Entrance Procedures
    • Please arrive for your reservation no more than 10 minutes prior to the start.
    • Please enter through the left doors and adhere to the social distancing markers on the floor of the lobby.
    • You may enter after your start time, but you will not be permitted to stay past the time slot.
    • At the front desk, you will need to swipe your card through the reader and inform the VCA of your reservation time and location. Access will be denied if COVID-19 training and attestation has not been completed. You will receive a card with your reservation information – please keep this with you during your workout.
    • You may only utilize the area of the facility that you reserved, and floor monitors may ask to see your reservation card.

  


RULES AND REGULATIONS

Masks covering the nose and mouth are required in the building except during swimming sessions (masks are required on the pool deck). We recommend reading these tips for working out with a mask published by the American Council on Exercise: Exercising With a Face Covering: Do's and Don'ts

Please maintain physical distancing and comply with directional signage. Patrons must stay within their reserved space and time slot.

Please read the specific cleaning and distancing guidelines for the space you have reserved before beginning your workout.

Locker rooms will not be open except for swimming reservations. Please limit what belongings you bring with you, and monitor them at all times during your workout.

Masks must be worn at all times during your workout. If you remove your mask to drink water, you must put it back on before resuming your workout.

Food and drink will not be allowed in the building except for a personal water bottle. Please be aware of the surrounding area and maintain physical distancing when your mask is removed to drink. Water fountains will not be in service, but bottle filling stations will be operable.

Lockers, cubbies and towel services are not available at this time.

Stretching mats and balls have been removed due to the difficulty of sanitizing soft/pliable surfaces.

No loitering in common areas or doorways. Patrons are encouraged to use the facility as efficiently as possible.

Please bring a separate pair of workout shoes to avoid tracking dirt, snow, and salt into the activity areas.

Report any problems or concerns to the front desk staff immediately.

Faculty/staff who fail to follow these rules or comply with directions of staff will be asked to leave the facility and may jeopardize their eligibility for future use.

AUX FITNESS CENTER RULES
50 minute reservation – 30 slots

Cleaning

  • Use the disinfecting wipes to clean your machine before AND after each use.
  • Please only use one wipe each time you clean the machine.
  • It is imperative that you do your part in cleaning the machines during your workout.

Physical Distancing

  • Please be mindful of maintaining distancing when moving between machines.
  • Avoid congregating by the disinfecting wipe stations.
  • Isolate yourself when drinking water, and put your mask back on before resuming your workout.
  • The southern half of the gym is closed to activity. Access is strictly limited to the athletic training room staff and varsity athletes.

POOL RULES
45 minute reservation – 14 slots

Physical Distancing

  • Please be mindful of maintaining distancing within and moving between locker room and pool areas.
  • Avoid congregating near locker room doors, pool ladders, and lane lines.
  • Masks must be worn at all times in the locker room and pool area unless showering or swimming.

Locker Rooms 

  • Please limit your time in the locker room to maintain low occupancy and adequate space for physical distancing.
  • A shower is required before using the pool.
  • Do not leave belongings in the locker room. All belongings must be brought to the pool deck.
  • At the end of your session, please exit the locker rooms through the doors leading directly to the hallways.

Lap Swimming

  • One person is allowed per each reserved lane.
  • Use any open lane in your designated reserved lane group.
  • Place your reservation card on the chair behind your lane.
  • Please stay in the middle of the lane when stopping on the walls.
