CHICAGO – The University Athletic Association (UAA) selected eight University of Chicago student-athletes as Athletes of the Week in their respective sports on Monday.

UChicago men's tennis was represented by three team members who all came away with ITA Central Region titles over the weekend. Junior David Liu was the singles champion in the four-day tournament, finishing with a victory in the title match over junior teammate Peter Leung. Liu entered the tournament as the No. 8-seed in a field of 128 players. He ended up going 7-0 with six straight-sets victories, including a pair of 6-0, 6-0 shutouts. Liu beat three seeded players, including the No. 1 seed from Kalamazoo College. Additionally, he reached the ITA Regional quarterfinals in the doubles draw playing alongside junior Nicolas Chua.

In their first official matches as a doubles tandem, senior Max Hawkins and freshman Tyler Raclin won the ITA Central Region championship. After entering the tournament unseeded in a field of 64 doubles teams, Hawkins and Raclin went 6-0. Their closest match score was 8-5 and they knocked off four seeded doubles teams en route to the title. They won in the championship final 6-2, 6-2.

Timofey Karginov nabbed his third Athlete of the Week recognition of the season in men's cross country. At the Augustana College Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on Friday, Karginov was the top UChicago finisher for the third-straight race. The senior took 12th place in the 8K, registering a time of 25:39.7 in a field of 401 runners. On the men's side, the Maroons took third place out of 21 teams.

Khia Kurtenbach made her season debut a successful one, picking up Athlete of the Week in women's cross country in the process. The junior won Augustana's 6K race in time of 22:27.4, topping a field of 383 racers. The Maroon women took home the team title in the 24-team invite.

UChicago women's soccer was recognized on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Jenna McKinney's scoring prowess allowed the No. 4-ranked Maroons to improve to 8-0 on the season with a pair of wins last week. The sophomore midfielder tallied two goals on Saturday to help beat No. 20-ranked Augustana College. It was her second multi-goal game of the season – she is currently riding a five-match point streak. McKinney leads the team in scoring with seven goals and three assists so far this year.

Defensively, goalkeeper Katie Donovan kept her perfect record intact with a pair of wins. On Saturday, Donovan made two saves – including one on a breakaway – to aid the Maroons in their 3-0 victory over Augustana. She improved to 8-0 while registering her fourth shutout of the season. In her freshman campaign, she owns a 0.27 goals against average and a .923 save percentage.

Hill Bonin garnered UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week in men's soccer for the third time this season. Bonin picked up a pair of shutouts last week in goal for the No. 4-ranked Maroons, who improved to 9-0 on the season. The junior made five saves in the two games. He set a new career-high on Saturday with his eighth shutout – he previously collected seven shutouts in 2014. Bonin has only allowed one goal this year in 819 minutes played for a 0.11 goals against average.
